Hoeneß Calls for Abolishing the '50+1' Rule to Allow Investment

Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeneß has called for the abolition of the "50+1" rule in German football, which grants members greater control over clubs. He is advocating for allowing investors and shareholders broader access to financially support the clubs.

Hoeneß explained that major clubs like Bayern Munich have strong financial resources that enable them to compete at the highest European levels, but the situation is entirely different for other clubs like Borussia Mönchengladbach, which struggle to keep up with the increasing inflation in the football market.

He pointed out that the financial gap within the German league is gradually widening, which could affect competitiveness in the long term, considering that the current system restricts some clubs from developing and keeping up with major European markets.

Hoeneß concluded his remarks by emphasizing that opening the door to investment might be a necessary step to maintain the global strength of the Bundesliga, while ensuring the competitive balance between clubs remains intact.
