The Iraqi Federation Completes Procedures for Ahmed Qasim's Inclusion
The Iraqi Football Federation announced the completion of all official documents related to player Ahmed Qasim, who is a professional with Nashville SC in the United States, making him ready to represent the national team in upcoming competitions, most notably the 2026 World Cup finals.
This step came after intensive work led by the expatriate committee within the federation, which included issuing an Iraqi passport for the player and completing his identification procedures in a record period, in coordination with the Iraqi consulate in Michigan.
Ghanem Aribi, a member of the federation's executive office and the teams' committee, explained that Ahmed Qasim's file saw continuous movement between Sweden, the United States, and Iraq, until all administrative and legal requirements were completed.
The federation's relations department, in collaboration with the expatriate committee, has effectively started the process of transferring the player's file from the Swedish federation to the Iraqi federation, ensuring compliance with international conditions to represent the 'Lions of Mesopotamia.'
Ahmed Qasim is 22 years old and excels in playing both right and left wing positions, delivering good performances with Nashville in the Major League Soccer since his move from Elfsborg in Sweden.
The player is of Iraqi and Jordanian descent but grew up in Sweden, representing its youth teams up to the Olympic team before deciding to return to represent his father's country.
Completing the file months before the start of the 2026 World Cup gives the technical staff, led by Graham Arnold, the opportunity to integrate the player into the system during the preparation period and test him in upcoming friendly matches.
The file is part of the federation's plan to expand the base of professional players abroad and invest in Iraqi talents spread across Europe and America to raise the national team's ambitions in the World Cup.
