Iraqi Federation Gives Graham Arnold Full Authority After Contract Renewal

Coach *Graham Arnold* has received full backing from the Iraqi Federation to lead the "Lions of Mesopotamia" in the upcoming phase, aiming to conclude his tenure with strong results in the Gulf Cup "Gulf 27" and the 2027 Asian Cup.

Australian coach Graham Arnold signed a new contract with the Iraq Football Association on Wednesday, extending until February 2027. The signing followed lengthy discussions, as Arnold preferred a shorter deal, while the federation aimed for a commitment until 2030.

Mohammed Nasser, the Vice President of the Iraqi Football Association, stated: "After in-depth negotiations, we reached an agreement with Graham Arnold to extend his contract until the beginning of next year. We ensured that the contract is balanced and guarantees the rights of both the coach and the federation."

Regarding the coaching staff, he added: "Rene Meulensteen has left his position by mutual agreement with Arnold. The coach will choose the replacement, and we will support all his decisions and provide him with all the necessary resources, especially since the upcoming phase is important and includes the Gulf and Asian Championships."

Nasser confirmed that the current focus is on the preparation program during FIFA Days.

"We will take advantage of the September break by participating in the Gulf Cup, and in November we will kick off plans for a four-team friendly tournament in Basra as part of our preparations for Asia 2027."

He added: "We have communicated with several Asian federations and are awaiting their approvals. If the four-nation tournament does not take place, we will secure a strong friendly match, and all of this will be coordinated with Arnold, who will arrive in Baghdad soon."

This marks Arnold's third renewal with the Iraqi national team. The first contract was until the end of the World Cup qualifiers, including the Asian and global playoffs, while the second was to lead the team in the World Cup finals. The third is dedicated to the upcoming challenges, primarily the Gulf Cup and the Asian Cup.
