Mosul Submits Official Protest After Loss to Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya

The management of Mosul Club submitted an official protest to the Iraqi Football Association, the referees' committee, and the disciplinary committee, objecting to the refereeing decisions and events that accompanied the team's match against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, which ended with the 'Falcons' winning 2-1 in the 101st minute.

The match, held at the International City Stadium as part of the 33rd round of the Iraqi Stars League, witnessed a dramatic ending after a late penalty was awarded, granting Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya the three points and sparking widespread objections from Mosul.

Mosul's management explained in their protest that the situation from which the penalty was awarded in the 101st minute started with a foul on an Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya player after he pushed a Mosul defender inside the area, causing him to lose balance and fall, hitting the ball with his hand.

The club considered the decision unfair and directly affecting the match result, demanding a review of the footage and the use of video technology.

The protest also expressed surprise at the continuation of the match until the 101st minute, even though the announced injury time was only 6 minutes. Mosul's management described the additional five minutes as unjustified and demanded clarification of the legal basis for the extended play.

They also criticized the lack of intervention by video referee Mohamed Salman to reassess the situation, and the absence of a disciplinary decision against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya's goalkeeper Mohamed Saleh for an incident the club deemed a clear obstruction against Alaa Al-Din Al-Dali, preventing a legitimate scoring opportunity that warranted a red card.

The statement condemned the assaults on Mosul fans by some stadium security personnel and several Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya supporters, which led to injuries among the fans and one being taken to the hospital. The club demanded an investigation and accountability for those responsible, ensuring the protection of fans inside stadiums.

The club called for an urgent and comprehensive investigation into all mentioned incidents, reviewing the penalty and Al-Dali's obstruction incident, clarifying the reasons for extending injury time, and taking disciplinary actions against violators.

Mosul's management affirmed their respect for the refereeing institution but emphasized their right to object and demand justice according to the regulations.

The match itself was crucial in the title race. Mosul initially led with a goal by Alaa Al-Din Al-Dali in the 15th minute, before Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya equalized with an own goal in the 87th minute. In the dying moments, referee Muhannad Manaf awarded a penalty successfully converted by the 'Falcons' in the 101st minute, allowing them to win 2-1 and extend their lead to 5 points over Al-Shorta with four rounds remaining.
