Athletic Bilbao officially announced the appointment of German Edin Terzic as the new coach of the team, succeeding Ernesto Valverde, in a move that ended the speculation surrounding the identity of the club's next manager.

The German coach, who led Borussia Dortmund to the 2024 UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid, is returning to work again after a self-imposed break since leaving the German club.

Athletic's management sees him as the right person to get the team back on track after a decline in results in recent months.

According to the official statement, Terzić signed a contract extending until 2028 to lead the team at San Mamés Stadium in the coming seasons. This appointment marks a clear shift in the club's policy, as President Jon Uriarte chose a coach with no prior connection to the club or even to the Spanish league.

Appointing Terzić represents a new adventure for both parties, especially since the 43-year-old coach has a good reputation at the European level despite his limited coaching experience.
