Injury Strikes Nico Williams Before the World Cup

Sunday 10-05-2026
Athletic Bilbao received a worrying blow during their match against Valencia when star Nico Williams suffered an injury that forced him to leave the field in the 36th minute.

Nico fell on the pitch at San Mamés in the 34th minute, clearly in pain, before coach Ernesto Valverde decided to substitute him with his brother Iñaki Williams a few minutes later.

According to reports, the player appeared extremely affected as he left the field, repeatedly saying, "This can't be happening," in reference to his disappointment after recently returning from a groin injury that had kept him out for a long time.

The player's injury raises concerns within the Spanish national football team just weeks before the final World Cup squad announcement, especially since coach Luis de la Fuente is already dealing with several physical issues affecting some of the team's stars, most notably Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and Mikel Merino.

The young player is expected to undergo further medical examinations in the coming hours to determine the exact nature of the injury and the duration of his absence from the team.
