Simeone: We Have an Exceptional Challenge in London, But We Will Play with All Our Strength
Diego Simeone, the coach of Atlético Madrid, talked about his team's match against Arsenal, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano Stadium, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, confirming his team's readiness to play the return match with full strength in London.
Simeone said: "We have an exceptional challenge in London at Arsenal's stadium, and we will go to play with everything we have."
He continued: "The atmosphere was amazing, I remember few times seeing such attendance at the start of the match, it was wonderful and a gift to the team. The first half was calmer with chances for both us and them, and in the second half, we adjusted the situation and they appeared fatigued due to the match pressure, and in the end, we could have advanced but their goalkeeper and defender defended well."
He added: "In the Champions League semi-finals, penalties must be clear, and thanks to video technology, our penalty was awarded. Sometimes the decision is with you and sometimes against you."
Regarding player readiness, he said: "I can't imagine any player not being available for Tuesday's match, Juliano took a hit, Alvarez as well, and Sorloth is suffering from discomfort in the hamstring."
He continued about the team's performance: "Koke and Griezmann showed great experience, Griezmann doesn't tire but improves as the match progresses, and Lookman played a great match and is also improving his defensive performance."
He added: "The team has become more solid, and Ruben's entry gave us greater defensive strength, but we need to improve the defensive side, it's not enough to just attack."
He continued: "We are grateful to the fans after this great support, the team did not give up despite all the circumstances, and we have Koke and Griezmann despite their age but they always work and fight, and we have a great and exciting challenge."
About Arsenal, he said: "A very strong team, they have a distinguished bench, and they haven't lost in the Champions League so far, we are facing a very big team."
