Arteta: Angry About the Penalty Not Being Given, But We Are in a Great Position
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, expressed his anger at the refereeing decisions during his team's match against Atletico Madrid, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano Stadium, as part of the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.
Arteta said: 'I am very angry about how the other penalty was not given, it couldn't be clearer than that.'
He continued: 'It was a great honor to play here, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the energy was high. We had chances, but we did not start the second half well and allowed them to improve. We knew the match would be tough, but we are disappointed about the penalty not being given.'
He added: 'I am very angry about how that play was not counted, it is very clear, just like in other instances, it is a clear penalty.'
Speaking about video technology, he said: 'It's their job, whether the decision is made this way or another, I am only evaluating the scene and what happened in it.'
On the impact of the decisions on the team, he said: 'We are at this stage, and things are constantly changing. We have invested a lot, and these things should not happen.'
He continued his statements: 'The play is clear, but it was not counted, and this is something for the club to make the right decision about.'
Concerning the team's performance, he said: 'We had good moments, but the start of the second half was not good, especially the last 15 to 20 minutes where we weren't at the required level.'
The Arsenal manager continued: 'Here at the Metropolitano Stadium, you have to suffer, many teams have suffered here, including some of the best teams in the world. We had some good moments in the match and moments where we had to suffer, and the differences are very small.'
He added: 'We are in a great position in the Champions League semi-finals, we have to play in front of our fans, and it's in our hands.'
He concluded: 'We had a lot of positives and a lot of good things, we went through very positive moments, and we knew we would go through strong moments, this team and its record at home is amazing, so we knew we would face that.'
