Doku: I Can Be One of the World's Best Wingers If I Score More Goals
Thursday 23-04-2026
Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku affirmed that he has the qualities to become one of the best wingers in the world, but he emphasized that improving his scoring ability is the key to reaching that level.

Doku said that his dribbling skills and ability to make a difference remain his strongest points on the field, explaining: "I can become one of the best wingers in the world... if I score more goals."

He added that facing defenders often prompts them to increase their marking on him, noting: "When I play now, there are often two defenders against me, and that's not a problem because it means another player is free."

The Belgian player spoke about his playing style, emphasizing that he relies primarily on one-on-one confrontations. He said, "I know that my greatest ability is in one-on-one confrontations. I won't hide that; it's my talent. But certainly, goals must also come. And if I score more goals, the conversation will be completely different."

Doku emphasized that improving his goal-scoring record is what will lead him to reach the level of top global stars, adding: "A winger must score. If I score more goals, I believe I will get there 100%."

He also expressed his desire to be more present in easy scoring areas, saying: "I want to be more present in easy scoring areas, like close-range goals."

In the context of discussing the Manchester City vs. Real Madrid match in the UEFA Champions League, Doku noted that opponents often resort to marking him with two players due to his threat in one-on-one situations, adding: "I saw that video (Trent Alexander-Arnold mimicking my moves). It was a good matchup against him. I enjoy playing against him."

The player also mentioned his goal against Liverpool during the 3-0 victory in coach Pep Guardiola's 1000th match, saying: "I scored a goal after dribbling past Ibrahima Konate and struck the ball powerfully into the top corner."

For his part, Guardiola later commented on his player's performance, stating that he does not expect him to become a top scorer, despite praising his development and adherence to instructions.

Statistically, Doku played 123 matches with Manchester City since joining from French club Rennes in 2023 for 55 million pounds, scoring 18 goals, with only one goal added since his goal against Liverpool.

In conclusion, Doku emphasized Manchester City's ambition this season, affirming that the team remains a contender for domestic titles and aims to end the season with significant achievements in domestic competitions.
