Gvardiol Halts Contract Renewal Due to Real Madrid

The Portuguese coach José Mourinho prioritizes Manchester City's defender Josko Gvardiol to strengthen Real Madrid's defense, as the Portuguese coach believes that the Manchester City player is the perfect piece the team needs in the backline.

According to the Spanish newspaper "AS," Mourinho admires the player's ability to occupy more than one position, as he can perform as a center-back or a left-back with equal efficiency. This aligns with the Portuguese coach's plans to build a more balanced defense, especially given the offensive strength on the right flank with the presence of Denzel Dumfries and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Gvardiol tops Mourinho's list, alongside Riccardo Calafiori, but the deal won't be easy, especially since Manchester City highly values the player and considers him an important part of the team, having signed him in 2023 for 90 million euros from Leipzig.

Despite the difficulty of the negotiations, Gvardiol has not closed the door on Real Madrid, as he has asked for time to consider his future and has temporarily halted the renewal of his contract with City, especially with the significant interest from the royal club and the fact that the deal was requested directly by Mourinho.

Real Madrid is already working on restructuring their defense line, having secured the signing of Ibrahima Konaté and added Dumfries. The club is planning to add a strong left-back before focusing on strengthening the midfield.

Mourinho is also seeking to sign midfielders, one of whom combines strength and mobility like Matheus Fernandes, and the other a playmaker who provides the team with control and organization, as part of a new project Real Madrid is preparing to implement.
