Wednesday 22-04-2026
Special sources within Al-Ahly club revealed that the management of the Red Castle is close to deciding on the identity of the new head coach for the team, amidst declining results and inconsistent performance under the leadership of coach Torup. The name of Portuguese Jose Gomes has emerged as the strongest candidate for the position.

A special source within Al Ahly club confirmed to "Layla Shoot" that the process of hiring a new coach is witnessing rapid developments at present, as the management is eager to restore technical stability to the team.

The source clarified that the strongest inclination within the club at the moment is to sign the Portuguese coach José Gomes, the current manager of the Saudi team Al-Fateh and the former coach of Zamalek Club.

José Gomes, 55 years old, has a diverse coaching career, having previously led several clubs, including Al-Ahli Saudi and Al-Taawoun, before taking on the role of head coach at Al-Fateh Saudi.

He also led Zamalek Club during 2024 and succeeded in winning the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Super Cup against Al Ahly, in one of his most notable coaching achievements on the African continent.

The Portuguese coach had previously won the Saudi Super Cup with Al-Ahli Saudi Club in the 2016-2017 season.

Gomez is currently continuing his duties with Al-Fateh Club in the Saudi Professional League, where the team is in 14th place with 28 points after 27 matches, having achieved 7 wins, 7 draws, and 13 losses.
