Flick's Discontent with Metropolitano Stadium
Barcelona coach Hans Flick expressed his dissatisfaction with the condition of the "Riyadh Air Metropolitano" stadium pitch ahead of his team's match against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday evening.
According to the Catalan newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," Flick approached the UEFA representative, Danish Christian Kofod, before the final training session to discuss an area of the pitch, expressing his dissatisfaction with the condition of the grass.
The newspaper explained that the cause of the concern might be related to the length or dryness of the grass, especially with the decisive match scheduled to take place in less than 24 hours.
The report confirmed that the German coach expressed his observations in a calm manner, but he made sure to clarify his stance regarding the pitch conditions, given the importance of the match that will determine the team advancing to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
UEFA regulations stipulate a precise determination of grass height, not exceeding 30 mm, ensuring it is even across all parts of the field, whether during training or the match. If the referee or UEFA delegate deems it necessary, the host club can be required to adjust or cut the grass before the match starts, or water it if it is dry.
It is noted that the first leg match between the two teams ended with Barcelona losing 2-0 at their home ground in front of their fans.
