Barcelona continues to study its options in the transfer market with the aim of strengthening the defense line, as it has shown interest in signing Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, a Manchester City player, according to the Spanish newspaper 'Sport'.

This interest comes within the framework of the club's plan to search for a left-footed defender, which is one of the positions Barcelona seeks to reinforce, with the possibility of also relying on the player in the left-back position, providing additional tactical flexibility within the defensive system.

According to the technical analysis in the report, Gvardiol is considered one of the standout players developed by coach Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, having been deployed in multiple positions within the back line, despite his primary position being the left center-back during his time with Leipzig before moving to the Premier League.

Since joining Manchester City for 90 million euros, the player has played three seasons with varying levels of performance, alongside suffering a severe injury with a broken leg bone that sidelined him from 27 matches between club and national team. Nevertheless, he concluded his last season by playing 25 matches, during which he scored two goals and provided 5 assists.

Gvardiol is distinguished by his strength in duels and ability to build play from the back, whether through passing or advancing with the ball, in addition to possessing a high tactical level, allowing him to handle wide spaces thanks to his speed and good reading of the game. He is also considered a versatile player, having returned this season to play as a center-back after previously being used in the left-back position at Manchester City.

He has also shown clear development in the offensive aspect, becoming more effective in contributing to the attack, benefiting from his experiences within Pep Guardiola's system, which has been reflected in his scoring and chance creation statistics.

If he moves to Barcelona, he is expected to form a strong addition alongside Pau Cubarsi in the center of defense, with the possibility of granting him additional offensive roles, especially since he scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 122 matches with Manchester City. His ability to effectively use his right foot is considered one of his strengths despite being a left-footed player.

Gvardiol's contract with Manchester City extends until 2028, while his market value is estimated at around 70 million euros. Meanwhile, multiple sources indicate that he has been offered to Real Madrid and other clubs, opening the door to speculation about his future in the coming period.

The aspect related to his previous leg fracture injury remains one of the factors being considered, as Barcelona continues to evaluate the player's profile within its defensive plans, awaiting the decision of the technical staff led by Hans Flick regarding the suitability of the deal for the team's needs.
