Fati Nears Permanent Move to Monaco

Saturday 30-05-2026
Ansu Fati is close to continuing his journey with AS Monaco on a permanent basis, as both parties are nearing a final agreement that will end the uncertainty surrounding the player's future in recent times.

The Barcelona striker was hoping for a new opportunity within the Catalan team during the 2026/2027 season, especially after completing his loan period with Monaco on a positive note. He finished the season in good physical condition and managed to score a goal during the final stages of the competitions. The player also believed he could serve as a substitute for Raphinha among coach Hans Flick's options.

The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" explained that Barcelona's signing of Anthony Gordon has changed Ansu Fati's situation. The player realized that his chances of securing a spot in the lineup have become limited, prompting him to consider determining his future away from the club.

The newspaper added that the agreement between the player and Monaco is close to completion after Ansu Fati gave his consent to continue. However, the official announcement of the deal has not yet been finalized. The player was anticipating an upcoming meeting between his agent Jorge Mendes and Barcelona officials in hopes of paving the way for his return, but current indications do not point in that direction.

Ansu Fati delivered performances that convinced Monaco's management of the necessity to retain him, after participating in 25 matches and scoring 9 goals, contributing to the team's qualification for European competitions. The French club is satisfied with his technical output but insists on completing the deal under new financial terms that include a significant reduction in the player's salary.

Before his loan move to Monaco, Ansu Fati renewed his contract with Barcelona until June 2028, with part of his financial entitlements deferred. The loan agreement also included a purchase option valued at around 11 million euros, an amount that does not pose an obstacle for the French club.

The negotiations regarding the player's contract experienced some delays due to his desire to return to Barcelona, despite his agent's efforts to bridge the gap. Nevertheless, there is a great deal of optimism within Monaco about finalizing the agreement and obtaining final approval in the near future.
