Simeone: We Respect Barcelona but We Have Enthusiasm, and Griezmann is One of the Key Players
Argentinian coach Diego Simeone, the manager of Atlético Madrid, spoke during the press conference ahead of the match against Barcelona, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, which will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, at Camp Nou at 9 PM Cairo time.
Simeone said: "The match won't change much, and I'm only thinking about Barcelona," emphasizing his full focus on the upcoming encounter.
He continued: "We have great enthusiasm and respect, but also great enthusiasm. We know where we are and we understand the size of the opponent, but our enthusiasm doesn't change regardless of the team we face."
Regarding the playing style, he added: "All teams that attack better defend worse, and Barcelona is an example of that. This is a natural and logical option, and we are working on improving our offensive side."
On how to harm the opponent, he said: "I hope we see that tomorrow," hinting at his plan for the match.
About Barcelona's strength, he explained: "The Champions League is a complicated tournament, and Barcelona is a very strong team at home, and we will try to move the match to a place where we can harm them."
On the absence of goalkeeper Jan Oblak, he said: "He is in better condition and working well, but he wasn't fully ready, so it's better for Musso to continue. We hope he will be ready for the next match."
Regarding the players threatened with suspension, he noted: "I am not aware."
Simeone also touched on his conversation with Antoine Griezmann, saying: "We talked, and I understood how he feels and shared his opinion. There are things that are not said, but I always try to help him as a coach and as a person who values him, and he reciprocates that."
He continued: "I am grateful to have a player like Griezmann. He came as a young man and went through a tough period, then adapted and started scoring more each year. I see him as one of the most important players I have coached, even though some may feel jealous."
