Barcelona Accelerates Steps to Renew Ferran Torres' Contract

Friday 12-06-2026
Barcelona has clarified its position on the future of Ferran Torres, deciding to initiate the process of renewing the Spanish forward's contract, which runs until June 30, 2027, instead of waiting until the start of the new season as previously planned.

The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported that Barcelona's management believed in recent months that there was enough time to open the renewal file in September or October, similar to what happened with De Jong before he signed his new contract in 2025.

Barcelona has the option to offer a new contract extending for an additional three or four seasons, with the duration of the extension to be determined based on the initial discussions with the player's agent.

This move came after Ferran Torres gained increased importance within the team following Lewandowski's departure, in addition to the non-activation of the purchase option for Marcus Rashford, who plays similar attacking roles to the Spanish star.

Torres has delivered impressive numbers since fully transitioning to the center-forward position under Hans Flick's leadership. He participated in 49 matches across various competitions, scoring 21 goals and providing 3 assists over 2,692 minutes of play.

Despite Barcelona's ongoing search for a new striker, currently focusing its efforts on signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, the club remains committed to keeping Ferran Torres as part of its sports project. Official communications with his agent, Hector Perez, are expected to begin in the near future.
