Arbeloa: Winning La Liga Has Become More Difficult, and I Don't Care About the Barcelona Match
Saturday 04-04-2026
Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa spoke at the press conference following his team's loss to Real Mallorca at the San Moix Stadium, as part of the thirtieth round of the Spanish League competition.

The coach said: "Has winning La Liga become difficult? It has become more challenging compared to before the match started. We still have eight rounds left, and I told the players that our goal should remain the same regardless of the league standings, which is to win the remaining eight matches. To achieve that, we need to play better than we did today and perform at a much higher level. Things have become more complicated, but our goal should not change."

He added: "Did the team not show a reaction in the second half? Perhaps this was due to the context of the match and the anxiety resulting from being behind in the score, in addition to the lack of patience we should have had. The opponent closed the spaces more and had additional energy after taking the lead. We did not show enough patience and did not implement what we worked on during the week, which is the ability to rotate play and create one-on-one situations on the flanks. We lacked many things in the second half and needed a second half with more energy and clearer ideas."

He continued: "For me, it's easy to see the difficulty of the match and the strength of the opponent. I can perceive that clearly, but the harder part is for the players to understand that without giving 200% effort, we won't be able to win. Although we were superior in the first half, one defensive organization error cost us a goal. At this level, if you lose focus for a moment or lose track of a player, you might pay the price immediately. And when you don't capitalize on your chances in front of the goal while the opponent does, you end up being punished because we're talking about the highest level in football. What pains me the most is that we didn't deliver a much better second half than we did."

He continued: "Is this defeat the players' responsibility? No, not at all. This defeat is entirely my responsibility. What I need from the players now is to focus on Tuesday's match. When they leave the locker room, they should consider this match over for them. I make the decisions, I set the lineup, make the changes, and choose the playing style, so this loss falls on the shoulders of the Real Madrid coach. All I want is for the players to believe in their ability to win Tuesday's match, which is a very important Champions League encounter, a tournament that holds great significance for us. Therefore, when they leave the locker room, they should focus solely on the Bayern Munich match."

Regarding the match between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid and whether the team is expecting a favor from the Rojiblancos: "That doesn't concern me. What matters to me is my team and preparing for Tuesday's match. I don't waste my time thinking about things I can't influence."

Regarding: "Does Bellingham need time to be ready? This is natural, as he was absent for a long time, played 20 minutes against Atletico Madrid, and today participated for just over half an hour. The idea is for him to gradually regain his match rhythm. No player can reach their best level without playing matches, so patience is required with him."

He concluded: "Are you afraid this loss will affect Real Madrid fans? Not at all, I know very well what my team players can offer, and I know they understand the importance of Tuesday's match. In football, there are games where it's not your day and things don't go as you want. On Tuesday, the level of demands will be at its highest, and I am confident in the support Real Madrid fans will provide us, and with them, things become much easier."
