Eric Garcia's Status for Champions League Clash Against Feyenoord

Spanish defender Eric Garcia will miss Barcelona's match against Feyenoord in the opening game of the 2026/2027 Champions League season due to suspension after receiving a straight red card in his last match in the competition.

According to "Mundo Deportivo," Article 63.01 of UEFA regulations states that any player who is sent off will be suspended for one match in the next European competition fixture they participate in.

García received a direct red card during the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals last season against Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium, in a match that ended with Barcelona winning 2-1. As a result, he will miss the clash against Feyenoord on Wednesday, September 9, at Spotify Camp Nou.

Garcia's absence represents a blow for coach Hans Flick, but he has options to compensate for him at right-back, including Jules Koundé and Théo Hernandez.

According to the Spanish newspaper, UEFA has raised the number of yellow cards needed for suspension in the group stage from three to four starting this season. Additionally, yellow cards will be wiped clean after the quarter-finals and will not carry over to the semi-finals, except for players who receive a yellow card in the second leg of the quarter-finals that completes their suspension tally.
