Egypt's Ambassador in Spain: Racist Chants are an Individual Act, and Spain is Not Racist
Ihab Ahmed Badawi, Egypt's ambassador to Spain, affirmed that the racist chants from some fans at the RCDE Stadium during the Spain-Egypt match were individual actions and do not reflect the Spanish society as a whole.
During his interview on the program El Partidazo de COPE, the ambassador praised the management of the Spanish Football Federation, noting that his personal experience confirms that Spain is not a racist country, and that Spanish hospitality towards foreigners is exemplary. He also highlighted the strong friendly relations between the two countries, including the visits of Spanish monarchs to Egypt.
Badawi added that those who chanted were a minority and did not represent the majority of the community or the position of the Spanish government, emphasizing that he did not consider leaving the platform during the incident, and that the responsible authorities showed a clear stance by rejecting the unacceptable behavior.
The ambassador also noted his ongoing communication with the Spanish government, emphasizing that the reactions of the Ministers of Education and Justice, as well as the Spanish Football Federation, reflect the depth of friendship between the two countries.
Regarding the players of the Egyptian national team, the ambassador emphasized that they considered the actions unacceptable, but they are certain that these actions do not represent the entire Spanish society, but rather a minority of the fans.
