Aguirre: We Are Fully Prepared.. The Opening Match Could Be a Great Day for Mexico
The coach of the Mexican national team, Javier Aguirre, confirmed his team's readiness to face South Africa in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup, noting that the team has improved significantly in recent times and that all conditions are set for a strong start in front of their fans.
Aguirre said in the press conference: "The team has developed, and everything is set for a good start in the World Cup. It could be a great day for us, with full respect for the opponent."
He added, "We had enough time to prepare properly, and the players who suffered from injuries or surgeries have regained their physical and mental readiness."
The Mexican coach praised the South African national team and its coach Hugo Broos, saying: "I have great respect for coach Hugo Broos, as he has given his team a clear identity. I really like Relebogile Mokwena, he is a talented player and I believe he will soon move to Europe."
Aguirre also spoke about Mexico's negative record in World Cup opening matches, saying: "We must break this statistic; it will be an additional motivation to win."
He concluded his remarks by saying, "I told the players that we are a family, and I believe they were convinced of that. It's a very powerful word and reflects the comfort and harmony within the group. I think we are fully prepared."
