World Cup 2026: The Most Polluting in History

Thursday 11-06-2026
French reports have revealed that the 2026 World Cup could be the most environmentally impactful edition in the tournament's history, due to the volume of emissions resulting from hosting the competitions in three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

According to estimates, the tournament is expected to produce about 7.8 million tons of carbon dioxide, a figure that more than doubles the emissions recorded by the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

These figures are due to the expansion of the tournament, the increase in the number of stadiums and host cities, as well as the numerous flights and travel between the three countries during the competition period.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to kick off on June 11 and will continue until July 19, with expanded participation in the new edition of the tournament.
