Wednesday 18-03-2026
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola spoke in a press statement following the 2-1 loss against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, at the Etihad Stadium.

The coach said: "It's tough to be 4-0 down and play with ten men against eleven. But we did our best."

Regarding his feelings about the team's performance: "We have an exceptional team and a great group of players. The future is bright."

He emphasized: "It's an experience we learn from. We were supposed to play with ten men against eleven. But no one knows. Maybe we would have lost 6-0, but that's the reality."

He stressed: "Courtois is an excellent goalkeeper. He performed well in the first 15-20 minutes, but after that, we were playing with ten men against eleven, and it was difficult. In the end, Courtois was the best player on the field, which shows how good our performance was. My feeling is that I deserved a chance to play with ten men against eleven."

Regarding the red card received by Bernardo Silva, he concluded: "What he did was a reaction. Instinct. It's a harsh punishment - a penalty and a red card."
