Laporta: Flick's Contract Renewal is Imminent, and We Trust in the Continuity of Lewandowski and Rashford
Barcelona club is experiencing a state of stability and optimism, after more than 24 hours have passed since Joan Laporta's victory in the club's presidential elections.
In this context, the elected president conducted an extensive interview with Catalan radio station RAC 1, during which he discussed various issues before officially assuming office on July 1st.
The technical management of the first team was a key topic of the interview, where Laporta revealed positive news regarding the continuation of coach Hans Flick at the helm of the technical leadership.
Laporta confirmed that the agreement to renew Flick's contract until 2028 has already been reached, with an official announcement to be made soon, reflecting the great confidence in the club's sports project.
Laporta said: "The current board has the authority to renew Hans Flick's contract, and we want to extend it until 2028, with an additional margin each season, and he fully supports this step, and we will announce the agreement soon because he feels very comfortable here."
He added: "This decision is a joint one between Flick, Rafa Yuste, and Deco, and I personally strongly desire his continuation, as harmony with him is extremely important, and he understands football greatly, and renewing his contract reflects the stability we are experiencing, and I see that he is capable of continuing for another five years, as he is young, full of energy, and feels comfortable in the city."
Laporta touched on the sports management, saying: "I hope Deco continues with us, as he works calmly and comfortably despite the pressures he faces, and he has a strong personality, and his relationship with Flick is excellent, with mutual respect between them."
He continued: "Regarding Lewandowski, I hope he continues if he wishes to do so, and Deco sees that he deserves to stay, especially since he joined us in difficult circumstances coming from Bayern Munich, and if he wants to continue, we welcome that."
He added: "Lewandowski has recently accepted his role in rotation with Ferran Torres, and with them, this position is covered, but if we need to sign a new player, we will do so, and there are examples like Harry Kane, who is the same age as Lewandowski."
Regarding the English winger, Laporta said: "Marcus Rashford is performing well with us in terms of scoring goals and creating opportunities, and we hope he helps us in the knockout matches if he participates, and we will talk soon with Manchester United to ensure his continuity."
Laporta revealed the club's economic plans, saying: "With the completion of the new stadium, we will reach 450 million euros in annual revenue, while we currently achieve about 120 million euros only, and the current reality exceeds expectations."
He concluded his statements: "During the installation period of the Camp Nou roof, which may take from a month to a month and a half, we will temporarily move to the Johan Cruyff Stadium, and we plan to expand it by adding 10,000 permanent spectators, and we have discussed the matter with the city council, which does not oppose the idea, and despite traffic challenges, the increase is acceptable, and we aim to make this expansion permanent to avoid requesting exceptions from the Spanish league association, which requires a minimum of 8,000 spectators."
