Monday 16-03-2026
Yves Tourup, the coach of Al-Ahly, spoke about his team's loss to Tunisia's Esperance in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Al Ahly lost to Esperance with a score of 1-0 in the match held on Sunday evening in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Torop said at the press conference after the match: "We reached the opponent's goal several times but lacked precision in finishing the attacks properly. However, we were not good in the first 20 minutes of the second half, and Esperance has three outstanding players in the attack line capable of creating danger at any time."

He added, "I believe that the presence of the fans gives the team a great boost; they create a fantastic atmosphere and make the players feel good. We are not happy about the fans being deprived of attending the return match. I wished for Cairo Stadium to be filled with 80,000 fans to be our 12th player. However, we have great confidence in ourselves and are confident in achieving victory despite the absence of the fans."

He continued: "The match's outcome was determined after consulting the video, and I expected him to return to the VAR because of the punch Imam Ashour received inside the Esperance penalty area. However, we were surprised that he returned to award a penalty against us. We lost the first half of the match, but we have another half in Cairo in 6 days, and we will come back and achieve victory."
