Guardiola: We are not thinking about Real Madrid, and this is Haaland's condition
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against West Ham United in the 30th round of the English Premier League, at the London Olympic Stadium.
The coach said: "The return against Real Madrid: We will face West Ham... Now the focus is on West Ham. These types of matches are very difficult. You can make a lot of plans, but in the end, things don't always go as you want. The match is played according to the circumstances it imposes, and only then will you know if you have a chance or not. It's definitely tough."
He added, "We will see what happens. For now, all my focus is on the match against West Ham."
He emphasized, "The English Premier League is the toughest title to win, and I believe it is the most difficult competition. Nevertheless, we are still in the race, but we know that if we lose more points, everything could be over."
Regarding the impact of some players' lack of experience in Europe after the recent defeat, he said: "I haven't read this comment, but I'm sure Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias wouldn't talk about their teammates in this way. I don't feel that lack of experience was the issue."
He explained: "Between the first and second goals we conceded against Real Madrid, we were a threat and reached the goal line five times, but we made mistakes in the final pass. We were more aggressive without the ball and performed well in several situations."
He continued: "As Ruben and Bernardo said, players experience the moments of the match emotionally. In the Premier League, you have time to make up for it, but in the FA Cup or the Champions League, you might be eliminated from the tournament because of a single match."
Regarding the Champions League: "This tournament is dangerous because the opponent doesn't need many chances. We did a lot of good things to create opportunities, while they scored from the chances they had. That's football."
When asked about the readiness of his Norwegian striker Erling Haaland for the upcoming match, Guardiola simply replied, "Yes."
He stated: "All teams play for something; some fight for survival, others for Europe or the Champions League. In every match, there are no second chances."
He concluded: "Every match is important. We have struggled a lot this season in the Premier League and we will not give up. Of course, we will make some changes due to the match pressure, but right now I am only thinking about West Ham. I understand why you're asking about Real Madrid, but when I wake up, I think about West Ham and what we need to do."
