Silva: We Paid the Price, and We Believe We Have a Chance in the Second Leg
Thursday 12-03-2026
Manchester City's star Bernardo Silva appeared in a press statement following the 3-0 loss against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The Portuguese star said: "It's hard to talk about it because I would need to watch the match again. My feeling on the field is that we started the game well."

He added, "We couldn't control the atmosphere, and I think my team allowed emotions to affect the course of the game. We were feeling comfortable and finding the right spaces, but after conceding the first goal, we completely lost control and stopped managing counterattacks and second balls. When you play against Real Madrid with such quality, you pay the price."

He emphasized, "It's a tough stadium to play in. We are used to playing in such venues because playing at Anfield and St. James' Park is extremely difficult. You have to go through these moments to improve, and today was just an educational match for the entire team."

He added: "It's very frustrating [not scoring a goal], even though we believe it's still possible because a lot can happen in football. We were saying at halftime: 'The situation is bad.' There were many things that shouldn't have happened, but with just one goal, your chance to qualify remains."

He continued about the return match: "The 3-0 result makes things more difficult. Now we feel very sad, and we are in complete darkness. Tomorrow is a new day, and we will definitely play the match next week believing that we have a chance."

He concluded, "Now is the time for reflection and reviewing our mistakes. Then next week, as we prepare, we will be optimistic that we will achieve a positive result."
