FIFA Approves Proposal for 2029 Club World Cup
The British newspaper 'The Guardian' revealed in its report that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has approved a new proposal to expand the Club World Cup in the 2029 edition.
According to the report, the number of participating clubs will increase from 32 teams to 48 teams in the next edition, reflecting a trend towards expanding the participation base and enhancing the marketing and technical returns of the tournament.
This change comes amid pressure from major European clubs that were absent from the previous edition, including Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Milan, as these clubs demanded broader representation opportunities in the new system.
It is noteworthy that the newly established format of the tournament was applied for the first time last summer, and saw Chelsea crowned as champions after defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
The clubs' demands to participate in the next edition of the tournament are due to the massive financial returns.
