The Technical Committee Acknowledges the Invalidity of Girona's Second Goal Against Barcelona
Tuesday 17-02-2026
Barcelona lost 2-1 against its host Girona yesterday, Monday, at the 'Montilivi' stadium in the 24th round of the Spanish League, in a match that witnessed significant refereeing controversy.

Barcelona took the lead through Pau Cubarsi, then Thomas Lemar managed to equalize in the 62nd minute, while Girona's winning goal came in the 86th minute by Fran Beltran, amidst strong protests from Barcelona players over a foul on Koundé against Claudio Echeverri.

According to the newspaper 'AS', the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) admitted the possibility of a foul being called against Claudio Echeverri on Koundé, and thus canceling the goal, as this decision would have granted Barcelona an additional point, although it wouldn't have been enough to regain the top spot in the standings.

The Catalan newspaper 'Sport' reported that Barcelona is the team most affected by video technology errors, with 10 errors recorded against them, three of which involved semi-automatic offside situations.

Real Madrid tops the Spanish League standings with 60 points, while Barcelona is in second place with 58 points.
