Ceferin: Happy with the Return of Real Madrid and Barcelona to European Football
Aleksander Čeferin, the President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), announced the official end of the European Super League project after reaching an agreement with Real Madrid and the return of both Real Madrid and Barcelona to the European football family.
Ceferin said, "I am very pleased with the return of Real Madrid and Barcelona to the European football family, emphasizing that the agreement benefits all parties and enhances the stability of the game at the European club level."
The UEFA president continued: "There have been some disagreements with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, but mutual respect and love for the game have never been lost."
He added, "The only winner in this situation is football, no one else," noting that the agreement came after months of intensive dialogue between the European Club Association, UEFA, and Real Madrid.
Ceferin also pointed to the role of the President of the European Club Association, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, saying: "Nasser's interventions played a crucial role in reaching this agreement and officially ending the Super League project," emphasizing the importance of mediation to ensure the major clubs return to the traditional European path.
The joint statement affirmed that the agreement respects the principle of sporting merit, ensures the long-term sustainability of clubs, and works to enhance the fan experience through the use of technology.
