Monday 09-02-2026
The Iraqi football community, and Al-Zawraa fans in particular, are eagerly anticipating the first appearance of the team's new professionals during the upcoming match against the UAE's Al-Wasl, in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League 2. In this match, the 'Nawras' seek to achieve a positive result that enhances their chances before the return match.

Al-Zawraa Club officially announced the signing of Brazilian striker Matheus Silva from the Indonesian league, along with the inclusion of Congolese defender Henock Inonga, in a move aimed at strengthening the team's ranks and raising the level of competition within the squad, especially with important local and continental commitments awaiting the team.

With the completion of these two deals, Al-Zawraa has finalized its list of professional players, reaching the allowed limit of eight professionals, which provides the technical staff with broader options to handle the pressure of matches and multiple tournaments, in addition to providing technical solutions capable of making a difference in major confrontations.

Silva and Inonga are expected to be included in the team's roster preparing for the first leg against Al-Wasl, as the team needs to benefit from the readiness of all its elements.

The Brazilian striker is considered an important addition to the forward line, with his scoring abilities and effective movements within the penalty area, as well as his experience playing in different competitive environments, which may provide Al-Zawraa with greater diversity in offensive solutions.

As for the Congolese defender Henock Inonga, he is expected to provide clear support to the defensive system thanks to his extensive experience and stints with several foreign clubs, characterized by physical strength and the ability to read the game, along with his good presence in aerial balls, which are elements that could be decisive in knockout stage matches that require high concentration and tactical discipline.

Attention is directed towards the technical staff's decision regarding the involvement of the players from the start or utilizing them as trump cards during the course of the match, especially since such matches require a mix of experience and individual solutions capable of changing the rhythm of the game at any moment.

Al-Zawraa relies on these new reinforcements to appear strong against a competitor with continental experience, as the team hopes the recent additions will contribute to granting them a technical advantage and taking an important step towards qualifying for the next round, in a mission that requires the highest levels of readiness and focus.
