Sadness prevailed in the Iraqi sports community after the announcement of the death of former Iraqi national team goalkeeper Ahmed Ali Hussein on Wednesday, following a stroke in a hospital in the Qatari capital, Doha, leaving behind a long history of dedication and devotion on the football fields.

The former goalkeeper passed away at the age of 59. He was born at the beginning of 1967 and developed a passion for football from an early age, paving his way steadily through Baghdad's clubs and emerging as one of the distinguished goalkeepers of his generation.

The Iraqi Football Association mourned the deceased through its official accounts, with the president, Adnan Darjal, extending his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the football community, praying for God's mercy and for strength and solace for his family.

Al-Zawraa Club also issued a statement expressing its sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the former international goalkeeper and the sports community, recalling his contributions to Iraqi football during his career.

Ahmed Ali Hussein's career was marked by extensive transfers among the most prestigious Iraqi clubs, earning him the title of "the wandering goalkeeper," as he defended the colors of Al-Rasheed during his peak, then represented Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Al-Zawraa, in addition to Al-Talaba, Al-Shorta, Al-Karkh, Al-Najaf, and Erbil, leaving a clear mark wherever he went.

Internationally, the deceased was present in the Iraqi national team list from 1986 to 1996, a period that witnessed the emergence of a distinguished generation of Iraqi football stars, and he participated in many continental and regional tournaments.

His participation in the official list for the 1996 Asian Cup finals in the UAE is considered one of his most prominent international milestones before closing his chapter with the "Lions of Mesopotamia."

After retiring from playing, he did not stray from football, turning to train goalkeepers and passing on his experience to young generations by working with several Iraqi clubs, then continuing his coaching career in Doha through academies and clubs, where he spent his final years.

The Iraqi Football Association is expected to announce mourning for the deceased's soul, while Al-Zawraa Club is anticipated to remember him by wearing black armbands and observing a minute of silence before their upcoming match against Zakho in the Iraqi Stars League.
