Guardiola: Everything Is Going Against Us, and This Is What We Need to Change
Wednesday 21-01-2026
Pep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, admitted the difficulty of the phase his team is going through, emphasizing that the current situation requires swift action after the unexpected 3-1 loss to Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League, a defeat that complicated the team's calculations in the continental tournament.

Guardiola said: "Everything started going against us from the beginning of the new year in many aspects."

He added: "I know very well how strong the Bodo/Glimt team is, and I have never underestimated them. Perhaps I don't know much about them, but they reached the semi-finals of the Europa League last season, and that was present in my mind."

The Manchester City coach continued: "We entered the match missing important players who provide stability to the team, and we became a bit more fragile, as happened during a certain period last season."

He continued: "The players fought with ten men against eleven, and many of them took an extra step and raised their level, but that is not enough."

Guardiola went on to say: "We have to change the dynamic quickly before the next match against Wolverhampton, then the decisive confrontation in the last round of the Champions League against Galatasaray."

The Manchester City coach concluded by emphasizing that the upcoming phase requires a strong reaction, amid the decline in results locally and in Europe, and the team's pursuit of securing a direct qualification spot to the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.
