Barcelona Finalizes Its Position on Ter Stegen's Departure to Girona
Monday 19-01-2026
FC Barcelona has agreed to transfer their German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to Girona during the current winter transfer window, in a loan deal lasting six months until the end of the season.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and Girona have reached a final agreement regarding the deal, as the Catalan club has opened the door for the German goalkeeper's departure due to not needing his services, in addition to the desire to reduce the burden of his high salary.

The source reported that Ter Stegen gave his approval to join Girona last week, before the official agreement between the two clubs was reached this evening.

Through this move, Ter Stegen aims to play a key role in the upcoming period, preparing for the 2026 World Cup, especially since he has only participated in one match with Barcelona this season.

At the beginning of the season, Barcelona signed goalkeeper Juan Garcia from Espanyol, which reduced Ter Stegen's chances of starting. Later, Ter Stegen suffered an injury that kept him out of action for five months.
