Arteta: We Feel Disappointed, and We Must Give the Opponent Their Due Credit
Sunday 18-01-2026
Arsenal's coach Mikel Arteta appeared in a press conference following the goalless draw against Nottingham Forest in the 22nd round of the English Premier League.

The coach said in his statement: "We came here to win the match, and in the end, we did not succeed in doing so. We must give them credit for their good organization and the quality of the game they consistently tried to impose."

He added: "We knew that when you have four clear chances, as we did — Gabriel Martinelli's chance in front of an open goal, and opportunities for Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and Bukayo Saka — you have to finish the game. We didn't concede a single shot on target, yet we still feel disappointed for not winning."

He continued about the Nottingham player’s hand touch inside the penalty area: "There was a clear penalty inside the box that wasn’t awarded, and we shouldn’t overlook that. These are the small differences. I saw it live, I saw it here, and I’m seeing it again now. It was unnecessary, but he did put the ball in with his hand, so it’s a clear penalty."

He concluded on the possibility of considering a draw as a positive point: "We have to approach it this way, to learn and improve. The league shows how tough it is; no one wins all the time. It's very difficult, especially in a situation like the one we experienced today. We should have secured the win, but at the same time, we must give the opponent their due credit."
