Guardiola: The Better Team Won, and the Journey Is Still Long
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola appeared in press statements following the 2-0 loss against Manchester United in the 22nd round of the English Premier League.
The coach said: "The better team won. They were better, when the team is better you have to accept that. They had the energy that we didn’t have, so I congratulate them."
He added: "They had the chances in the end, and of course the goals we conceded came in a bad way. We did not control the match, but overall we can talk about this moment or that. Our duty is to analyze the match as a whole, and they were better."
Regarding the impact of the fans: "They started very strongly, we lost one or two balls. The fans are natural, because it’s a derby match. Over the past years, they have supported them, and with the new coach it’s natural for this to happen in the match, we did not create any threat or cross or movement to try to win. And this is part of the energy, winning or losing is also about what we do with the ball, not just without it."
He continued about the late substitutions and taking off Haaland: "Part of that, yes. We had new energy. In the end, it’s about the number of moments you have."
Regarding whether Dalot deserved a red card after his tackle on Doku: "You can say he deserved the red card, and the match would have been different. Many situations happened. It’s easy for me to come here and say it was a red card. It’s not about that, we won’t mature if this is the argument for winning or losing. To do that, we have to be better, and we were not today."
He concluded about the points gap with Arsenal: "It’s about how we mature as a team. I feel we have done very good things so far. To be better, sometimes we may need to take a step back. The season is long and we must continue analyzing."
