Carvajal: We Must Be Decisive, and What Happened Between Me and Yamal Is Over
Sunday 11-01-2026
Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, which will take place at the King Fahd International Stadium.

The coach said in his speech: "Tomorrow, we must be very decisive inside the penalty areas, play a match similar to what we showed at the Bernabeu, and endure the blows that the opponent may deliver to us. This is the way to win the title."

He added: "Have you practiced penalty kicks? Honestly, no. The experience of the shooters on our team is important. And if I were on the field and had the chance to take a shot, I would be happy to do it."

He continued: "Vinicius is mature enough not to get involved in these provocations. I know that sometimes he likes it because he also provokes, but he is growing in these situations and gets more motivated. Vinicius is a very important player for us. I believe he will deliver a great performance tomorrow, and we are all convinced of that. He has been through a lot of pressure and criticism before. It’s clear that he is an amazing player, and I am confident that tomorrow will be a big and important day for him."

He explained: "Were there moments when Xabi Alonso was treated unfairly in the locker room? The coach has his opinion, and so can Fede. I understand that he might not like playing as a full-back, but when he plays, he gives his all in any position he is assigned. And that is what matters most to me."

He continued: "Winning the final is always important, especially against Barcelona. It’s a huge morale boost. The team that wins tomorrow will come out stronger."

He pointed out: "What do you say to the fans? I tell them to look to the past. I come from a very successful career, and we also went through years when no one bet on us, yet we achieved great things. We are focusing only on tomorrow's match; we have great motivation and a strong desire to win the title."

He added: "Kylian is a very important player for us, he is the best striker in the world, and I hope he will be present on the field tomorrow because he could be decisive."

Regarding your condition: "You underwent procedures in six or seven areas of the head, and it wasn't easy. Now it seems we are on the right track. I have spoken a lot about the injuries: having a World Cup, matches every three days, more and more tournaments… players are not speaking without reason."

He added about his future with the club: "I came from a difficult period due to a serious injury. What I want now is to train and enjoy playing. The club shares the same approach that I have in mind. I need to play and see the level I can perform at. If the club and I have the same vision, there will be no problem."

Regarding the team's decline after winning the Clasico: "It's true that the team wasn't at its best towards the end of the year, and we were also affected by many absences. The Christmas break was beneficial for all of us. I see Xavi calm and clear-headed. It's true that when results don't come, talk arises, but we are with him until the end."

Regarding their altercation with Yamal in the last Clasico: "You never forget anything (laughs). Lamin is a young player, and I think he wasn’t completely at his best in the days leading up to the Clasico. But that’s where it ended. Everyone defends their club. Lamin is a great young player, and of course, I don’t wish him the best tomorrow, but that’s the end of it—I don’t make a bigger deal out of it."

Regarding the conversation he had with Simeone in the semifinal: "There is mutual respect between us. Each of us defends our club until the very end. He shared his point of view with me, and I shared mine with him. Now, our focus is on tomorrow's match, and we have a chance to win a new title."

He concluded: "Tomorrow is a very important day for us; we want to bring this title back home. On a personal level, it will also be significant for me to match Luka Modrić's record as the most decorated player in the club's history."
