Lewandowski: I am not afraid of ending my football career, and this is my role with the young players

Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona's striker, revealed his vision for his football future and his experience with the young players in the team during an interview on the "High Performance" podcast.

Lewandowski said: "I am not afraid of the end of my football career because I have already started preparing for it, and I am thinking about the things I can do after football."

He continued: "I knew that football was a very important part of my life, but it wasn't my whole life, especially now. When I was young, I didn't think about this because all I had in my mind was football. But now I know that I am very close to the end of my career—it could be a year, two years, three, maybe four, I don't know—but I don't feel any pressure."

He added, "If my body ever feels that something has changed, I will be ready to end my career."

Lewandowski continued talking about his role with Barcelona's young players: "When I joined Barcelona, the club asked me to share my experience and teach the players discipline, but I quickly realized that the approach needed to be different."

He continued: "At Bayern Munich, the mentality was different because we had more experienced and tougher players. But at Barcelona, I saw many young players who need to become stronger for themselves. The club said they needed someone like me to teach them that staying at the top isn't just about one or two weeks; what's also important is what you do off the pitch, like working in the gym and the importance of training hard every day."

He added, "But after getting to know the players and understanding their culture, which is different from Germany's, I also began to learn from them—about empathy and everything surrounding football—and that helped me a lot."

He concluded his statements by saying: "I began to realize that they don't like this kind of behavior. I felt like I was in a different world with a different generation. I am older than the players' fathers, even older than Lamin Yamal's father, for example. I told myself, well, I need to learn from them too because they understand football very well. I believe that many years ago, at the current ages of the players in Barcelona, we didn't understand football the way they do now."
