Rodri: We Feel Disappointed, and What I Went Through Was Difficult
Monday 05-01-2026
Manchester City's midfield star Rodri expressed his disappointment following the last-minute 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the 20th round of the Premier League.

The player said: "Certainly, it's frustrating, but in the end, this is football. We created enough chances to win by three or four goals, but this is football. If you don't capitalize on the opportunities available, the game will end in a draw. So, we have to learn from this. We still have a long way to go, and we just need to focus on the upcoming matches."

He added: "The first half was great, and we were able to score three or four goals. In the second half, we somewhat forgot how to play, they took control of the match, and we missed easy chances. Sometimes when we defend and defend and defend, they don't have much to offer, yet they still manage to equalize. We still have a long way to go."

He added, "This disrupts the team's balance every time a player gets injured, but of course, the team must adapt. That's not an excuse; we have players talented enough to play. However, in the second half, we lose some of our confidence. We'll get through this. Our next match is against Brighton at home, and we have to win. We know this season will be long, so we must persevere and work hard."

He continued about his return to playing: "For me, it's a blessing. What I went through was very difficult, so winning, drawing, or losing—everything now is a blessing to me. To play, to enjoy the joy of the game, to regain my smile, and the rest will come later—the victories and successes of the team. Right now, all that matters to me is maintaining my fitness and enjoying football."

He concluded: "I went through a phase of physical rehabilitation, especially concerning the muscles. I feel strong. I need to get back into the rhythm of matches, but considering the current state of the season and the circumstances I have been through, I feel that I am in good shape."
