Arteta: Ready to face Bournemouth, and the transfer market is open to us
Friday 02-01-2026
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's coach, revealed during the press conference ahead of the Premier League match against Bournemouth the latest updates on the team and his thoughts on the upcoming games.

Arteta said: "We haven't had any training yet. Today will be the first training session with the players who started against Aston Villa, and we will know more after that."

He continued: "Rice's knee swelling has not gone down yet, and we will assess his condition after today's training, but the Villa match came too soon for him. Calaviri and Mosquera are both currently out of the team."

Arteta pointed to the abundance of attacking options, saying: "Having additional options benefits the team and every player. We want to have choices because of the many matches, and we’re pleased that everyone is ready and performing well, with the ability to change roles during the game and always select players who are in the best condition."

He continued: "Improving discipline is very important. We understand the importance of keeping 11 players on the field as much as possible, and we failed to do that last season. We also know how tough it is to face Bournemouth—they are a strong team and can threaten you from every angle."

Arteta added about the transfer market: "We are open to all options, and if we find short-, medium-, and long-term solutions, that is better because it provides stability. We will see what happens in the coming weeks to make the right decision."

Responding to the possibility of loaning Ethan Nwaneri, he said: "Every player is important and has a role, which may change throughout the season, and everyone must be ready to play."

Arteta also touched on the players' performance, saying: "Trossard's level is consistent and steady, as is the case with all the forwards who have contributed well throughout the season, whether as starters or impactful substitutes."

He added: "The players want to start, but they also play their role when coming on as substitutes and have a significant impact on the game, which is exactly what we need."

Arteta concluded his remarks about the team's position in the league and the players' desire to stay at the top by saying: "We are happy with our current standing, but there is always room for improvement. The players show their determination and ambition every day, and we take each day step by step to keep going and achieve our goal of winning the league."
