Friday 02-01-2026
Jonas Beid, the goalkeeper coach of the Benin national team, believes that the Egyptian national team is the strongest contender to advance to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Egypt national team will face the Benin national team next Monday in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Jonas Bied said on the official website of the Football Association: "The match against Egypt will be exciting, especially since it is a team with experienced players like Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. Egypt is the top favorite to win this match and advance to the quarterfinals, but Benin showed their capabilities during the group stage."

He added: "The Egyptian national team delivered a strong performance in the group stage under the leadership of Hossam Hassan, topping the group with 7 points. The Pharaohs demonstrated good organization and effective offense thanks to their outstanding players."

The goalkeeping coach continued: "The Egyptian national team has many technical strengths, especially in the attacking line. I specifically mention Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool legend, the fast and skillful striker, as well as Omar Marmoush, the versatile and dangerous Manchester City winger, and Mostafa Mohamed, the prolific scorer from Nantes."

Before he continued: "Benin has real chances, but Egypt is a strong team... Benin will need a solid defense and to exploit the spaces to face the Egyptians, and I expect that both teams have a chance to win."

He concluded: "I don't have a favorite candidate for the Africa Cup of Nations, as all the teams that reached the round of 16 in this tournament have a chance to win the continental cup, and anything is possible."
