Bin Musaad Sparks Controversy Regarding the Saudi National Team in the 2026 World Cup
Prince Abdulrahman bin Musaad, former president of Al Hilal, made shocking remarks about the Saudi national team's upcoming participation in the 2026 World Cup, expressing his pessimism about the Green Falcons being drawn into a group with Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
During his appearance on the program "Fi Al-Marma" on Al Arabiya channel, Bin Musaed described the situation of the Saudi national team as the "dark horse" of the group on paper, compared to the strength of the competitors and their continental and global history in the tournament.
He explained that the Saudi league is ranked among the top seven leagues worldwide, considering it a major sporting project, but he emphasized the difficulty of having both a strong league and a national team capable of competing at the same time.
The former president of Al-Hilal called for reducing the number of foreign players to only six until the 2034 World Cup, which will be hosted by Saudi Arabia, with the aim of giving local players more opportunities to develop and participate.
He pointed out that the national team no longer wins championships due to the significant development of competitors, noting that teams like Indonesia have become a threat, alongside the decline in the current generations' level and the scarcity of talent.
Bin Musaed emphasized that the setback cannot be attributed solely to the Football Association or the coach, considering that the current phase requires a long-term national project that sets the 2034 World Cup as a clear strategic goal.
He concluded his speech by emphasizing that keeping Renard is less harmful than making a change, explaining that no new coach has a magic wand, and that true success requires continuous effort and long patience.
