Yasser Al-Misehal announced his resignation from the presidency of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation following the Saudi national team's exit from the 2026 World Cup, affirming his responsibility for the outcome.

Al-Misshal clarified in a statement published on his official account on the "X" platform that he decided not to complete his term as president and to open the way for a new administration to lead the upcoming phase.

The resigned president of the federation indicated that the next step would involve initiating procedures to elect a new board of directors, in accordance with the regulations and systems approved within the Saudi Federation.

Al-Misshal expressed his gratitude to the Saudi leadership for the significant support that football has received over the past years, considering this support as the reason behind achieving many successes.

He also praised the efforts of the Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, affirming his appreciation for the continuous support he has provided to develop Saudi sports.

Al-Mushel affirmed that the board of directors worked diligently to serve Saudi football, but he admitted that failing to qualify for the next round of the World Cup was contrary to expectations.

He added, "I take full responsibility for not achieving the goal, and I apologize to the Saudi fans who were expecting a better performance from the team in the World Cup."

Al-Mashal left his position after spending seven years at the helm of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, affirming his continued support for Saudi sports and serving the nation.

He concluded his message by thanking the fans and everyone who supported the federation, wishing success to the upcoming council and the achievement of Saudi football's aspirations in the future.
