Jesus Nominated to Coach the Saudi National Team
The Saudi sports newspaper revealed that the Saudi Arabian Football Federation is considering dismissing the Greek coach Georgios Donis from coaching the national team, following the "Green Falcons" exit from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
According to the report, Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus is one of the leading candidates to take over the Saudi national team in the upcoming phase, should a formal decision be made to terminate the contract with Donis. The Portuguese coach has also expressed his readiness to take on the role if he receives an official offer from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation.
Denis took over coaching the Saudi national team last April, succeeding Frenchman Hervé Renard, who returned to lead the team shortly after the departure of Italian Roberto Mancini during the World Cup qualifiers.
Under the leadership of Donis, the Saudi national team played six matches, including three friendly matches in preparation for the World Cup, and three matches in the group stage of the World Cup. During this period, they achieved one victory, three draws, and two losses, before exiting the tournament in the first round.
