Arteta: We Delivered an Exceptional Performance, and We Still Have a Long Way to Go
Tuesday 30-12-2025
Arsenal's coach Mikel Arteta appeared in a press conference following the 4-1 victory over Aston Villa in the nineteenth round of the English Premier League, held at the Emirates Stadium.

The coach said in his speech: "It was a great match. We knew we were facing a team that had won 11 consecutive games and was in high spirits. They are truly an amazing team. They always keep you under pressure. In the first half, during the first ten minutes, we made some timing mistakes, which allowed them to break through our defense, and they pose a great threat in that area. After we regained control, our performance improved in the second half, and I believe we delivered an exceptional performance."

Regarding defender Gabriel's return and his goal that put the team ahead in the match: "I believe his character and presence in the penalty area are truly exceptional. He had been out for six weeks and hadn't played yet, and today he had to face the most dangerous team, especially with spaces behind him. His performance was outstanding."

Regarding Gabriel Jesus scoring a goal immediately after coming on as a substitute: "Wonderful. He seemed completely focused, very ambitious. I believe Victor [Gioqueres] delivered an outstanding performance in the attack, but Gabi made perfect use of his opportunity, so that's another goal added to our tally."

On whether tonight's win sends a strong message: "It's three more points, and that's what matters. We know how long this situation will last. 2025 has been an exceptional year. We know what we want from 2026, and we will have to work hard to achieve it. We still have a long way to go."

He concluded on whether Declan Rice would return by the weekend: "I believe so. If the swelling goes down over the next few days, he will be in better condition. But the good thing is that despite the absence of many players, the team is still able to deliver this outstanding performance and win the match."
