The Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" revealed that Inter Milan may allow their Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij to leave in the upcoming period, provided they succeed in signing a new center-back during the winter transfer window.

According to the newspaper, 33-year-old De Vrij is one of the names recently discussed at Barcelona, fitting the profile the Catalan club is looking for. The Dutch defender's contract with Inter expires next June, and the Italian club shows no interest in renewing it, especially given his reduced playing time this season and the fact that he lost part of his standing with the Dutch national team six months before the World Cup.

The newspaper explained that De Vrij is now behind Basic, Akanji, and Bastoni in the coach Christian Kivuo's preferred starting lineup. He is also behind Acerbi and Carlos Augusto in the rotation, which makes his departure likely if a new defensive reinforcement arrives.

The newspaper pointed out that Inter will be active in the January transfer market in search of a defender, with two prominent names on their list of interests from the Italian league: Spanish player Mario Gila from Lazio, who has been performing strongly this season, and Tarek Moharemović, the young defender from Sassuolo and one of the surprises of Serie A.

The report confirmed that if Inter succeeds in closing a new defensive deal, De Vrij's departure will be almost certain, with the remaining question being whether Barcelona will finalize their decision and officially move to sign him.
