Laporta: In Madrid They Suffer from a Severe Obsession with Barcelona
Tuesday 16-12-2025
Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, confirmed the official stance of the Catalan club in response to statements made by Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, who launched an attack on the refereeing union and Barcelona, just hours before the cup match against Guadalajara.

Laporta said: "The obsession has now become severe, and I see it as deeply rooted in the hearts of Madrid fans. Nothing else to say, we are here to play football and present a good image."

He continued: "It suits us because they are more preoccupied with us than they should be with themselves. In Madrid, they keep inflating the issue of Nierga to find justifications for something that is not going well for them."

Laporta also elaborated on the Super League and Barcelona's new position with UEFA and the Champions League, saying: "If the discourse has changed, it is because last year there were overlaps in some projects, and now that these projects have not borne fruit, we have an agreement with UEFA because what we seek is peace in football, while others seem not to pursue that."

Speaking about the match against Guadalajara, Laporta affirmed: "We are here to defend the title against Guadalajara, whom we respect greatly. We know the entire city will be behind their team. These matches are difficult because they are played away, and the home team is highly motivated. We know the match will be very tough."

He added: "We have arrived here to focus on playing and achieving a positive result, and we are ready to face all challenges."

Regarding the reception from the fans, Laporta said: "We were welcomed by the supporters at the hotel, and among the most appreciated players were Pedri, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres, who interacted with requests for autographs and photos with the fans."
