Ahmed Hassan Reveals Details of the Penalty Kick Controversy in the Kuwait Match
Ahmed Hassan, the coach of Egypt's second national team, revealed details about the penalty kick controversy in the match between Egypt and Kuwait in the Arab Cup.
The Egyptian national team drew 1-1 with the Kuwaiti national team in the first round of the group stage of the tournament.
Ahmed Hassan, the manager of the Egyptian national team participating in the Arab Cup, said in a television statement: "What saddens me is that those who work in coaching speak without knowledge. People said Amr El Solia held onto the ball and questioned why he wanted to shoot again, and I am surprised by such comments."
He continued: "Amr El Solia didn't want to take the second penalty kick; on the contrary, he was waiting for us to tell him who would take it because we have an order: El Solia is number 1, Mohamed Elneny is number 2, and Mohamed Magdy Afsha is number 3."
He added: "I myself ask people to think before they speak, but people only look for the negatives. Amr El Solia never had even 1% intention of taking the second penalty kick."
He continued: "We wanted Marwan Hamdy to take the penalty kick, but Afsha had the ball, and Helmy Tolan asked Essam El-Hadary, because of his loud voice, to call Marwan Hamdy to be the one to take the shot. However, some people who don't like El-Hadary want to portray him in a bad light."
Ahmed Hassan concluded: "I told him, 'Enough, Afsha has the ball, we don't want an unnecessary crisis.'"
