Former Al Ahly Star Attacks Helmy Tolan
Adel Abdelrahman, former Egyptian football star, criticized Helmy Tolan, the assistant coach of the Egyptian national team, following Egypt's exit from the Arab Cup.
The Egyptian national team was eliminated from the Arab Cup tournament in the group stage, finishing third in their group with only two points.
Abdelrahman said on the program "Ya Masa' Al-Anwar" on the channel "MBC Masr 2": "The failure of the national team in the Arab Cup is the responsibility of Captain Helmy Tolan."
He added: "It was clear to everyone that the Asian teams would participate with their full strength since they are not tied to the Asian Cup, unlike the African teams, which attended with local players because their professionals are committed to European leagues."
He continued: "I believed it was better not to accept Captain Helmy Tolan's responsibility from the start, as long as he did not receive the necessary support and backing, as he himself mentioned."
He added: "I would have preferred the Football Association to intervene, specifically engineer Hani Abou Rida, to mediate and resolve the dispute between Hossam Hassan and Helmy Tolan, and to allow some players from the national team, such as Imam Ashour, to participate in the Arab Cup in order to prepare them for upcoming challenges."
He concluded: "The performance of the Egyptian national team in the tournament contributed to the brilliance of any team that faced them, and the defeat against Jordan was a warning signal for the upcoming period."
