Alguacil Responds to Dismissal Rumors: We Are Competing in Two Championships and This Is a Tough Challenge
Spanish coach Emmanuel Alguacil, head of the Saudi Al-Shabab team, responded to questions about the possibility of his dismissal in light of recent results, following the loss to Al-Ittihad Jeddah in the quarterfinals of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup.
Al-Ghwasil said during the press conference: "I do not interfere with the management's work, but for me, what matters is performing my job as required. From the first day, I said that the team is young and we have a high injury rate, and I hope we improve without an increase in injuries."
The Spanish coach added that the team has regained several injured players ahead of the match against Al-Ittihad, but they have not yet reached full 100% fitness. He also mentioned that he is awaiting the return of players who joined their national teams to assess their physical condition.
Al-Ghwasil spoke about the match, saying: "We tried to compete, but Al-Ittihad was much better than us. I congratulate them on the win. We took the lead, then they equalized, and we ended the first half behind. The quality of Al-Ittihad’s players was higher."
The head coach of Al-Shabab concluded his statements by emphasizing the difficulty of the current situation, saying: "We are competing in two different championships, and this is a tough challenge. We have many injuries, yet we are not far from sixth place in the league. We are also still competing in the Gulf Cup. I am convinced that the team will be much better once the squad is complete and the injuries are gone."
