Guardiola after the loss to Leverkusen: I take full responsibility
Pep Guardiola, the coach of Manchester City, expressed his disappointment after the 2-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen in the fifth round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, at the Etihad Stadium.
He began by addressing what was said inside the dressing room after the match, saying: "It is up to us."
He added: "I take full responsibility. I still believe the players who started the match are exceptional, but we lacked something essential at the highest level. Now we have to fight in the upcoming matches."
He continued: "Leverkusen were good. And overall, we also showed some very good things. We had more chances than them, but they were half-prepared chances."
Regarding making ten changes in the starting lineup: "I have to accept that. If we had won, it wouldn't have been a problem, so I must accept that maybe it was too much. But when you play every two or three days, you have to make these changes. However, looking at the result, maybe the changes were too many."
He concluded about the upcoming match against Real Madrid in the Champions League: "We have time...".
